Roadworks in Blackburn are causing long delays today (Tuesday, June 12) possibly affecting traffic travelling towards Royal Blackburn Hospital and Asda.

Delays are likely on streets such as Mosley Street, Roman Road, Grimshaw Park and Crossfield Street as roadworks are being carried out until midnight on Thursday, June 13.

The roadworks are due to utility repair and maintenance works by Openreach, the phone company owned by BT Group.

Openreach maintain telephone cables, ducts, cabinets and exchanges that connect nearly all homes and businesses in the United Kingdom to various national broadband and telephone networks.

Work has been in progress since 9.40am this morning (Tuesday, June 12) with permission granted by Blackburn with Darwen Council.

Traffic is being managed by traffic control such as multi-way signal temporary lights.

There is no footway closure on Mosley Street and Crossfield Street, but a pedestrian walkway has been provided for the footway closure on Grimshaw Park.

This means people could leave the car at home and walk the route instead to avoid queues if they are only making a short journey.

Long delays were seen at Mosley Street at 12.30pm today, with traffic building up around Asda Supermarket and Royal Blackburn Hospital.

The roadworks also surround Screwfix, Darwen Bed Centre, Toolstation and Londis.
