Eid prayers will be held at a Lancashire cricket ground for the first time.

East Lancs CC, based off Dukes Brow and West Park Road, will host the event which takes place in the morning of Sunday, June 16. East Lancs CC is one of the oldest cricket clubs in the north of England.

The Eid prayers event normally takes place at Corporation Park during Eid morning and attracts hundreds of people.

It is open to families and is attended by both men and women.

It has, in the past, taken place at Ewood Park.

The gathering has grown over the past few years as more and more people turn out to take part in the obligatory prayers before heading off to spend time with their families.

Eid prayers will take place from 9.30am.

Organisers, Darussalam Education Centre, based in Whalley New Road, has been hosting the Eid prayers in the park event every year.

A spokesperson said: “We are delighted to be hosting the event at the cricket club for the first time.

“The cricket venue is suited for events of this type and size and we are looking forward to welcoming worshippers to the Eid prayers.

“The event earlier this year was cancelled due to bad weather but we are hoping the weekend will be a little dryer and warmer than it has been.”

Eid-al-Adha known as the festival of sacrifice is the second Eid festival of the year and coincides with the annual Hajj pilgrimage.

The annual Eid festival in the park will still take place at Corporation over the weekend of June 22 and June 23 where there will be food stalls and a funfair.
