It might look like some kind of bizarre scientific experiment but this photo from 1994 actually shows the day Blackburn’s Ice Arena became a temporary home for hundreds of cats.
The arena, which had opened three years earlier, was hosting the Lancashire Cat Show which attracted more than 800 entries.
The venue was used for a number of different events, including a concert by Status Quo but the cat show was probably one of the more unusual ones. Hopefully judges and cat owners didn’t have to head out on to the ice.
