Here’s a photo which will bring back memories for many Accringtonians.
Taken in May 1981 it shows Broadway, the heart of the town centre. On the left you can see Woolworth’s and Marks and Spencer next to it.
The distinctive roofline of the open market is clearly visible on the right of the photo.
At this stage Broadway was open to two-way traffic with a pelican crossing to make it easier for pedestrians to cross.
The Classic cinema was further along Broadway. Who remembers the flower beds and the seats?
