A busy day in Blackburn town centre in the 1950s required a policeman on point duty to keep things moving smoothly.
This great photo was taken looking up King William Street from its junction with Church Street.
King William Street was one way and was packed with cars. But it wasn’t unusual even in in the Fifties to see the occasional horse and cart in town.
Burton’s on the corner was a prominent feature and you can see a wide array of shops heading down King William Street.
