The East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust (ELHT) has warned of long waits at Blackburn Hospital.

More than 100 people are in the hospital’s emergency department.

Staff have warned of long waits adding that the team is “working as quickly as possible” to see people.

People have been urged to avoid going to A&E unless their condition is life or limb-threatening.

A spokesperson for ELHT said: “There are currently more than 100 people in our emergency department at Royal Blackburn Hospital.

“Our colleagues are working really hard to see people as quickly as possible but with a high number of poorly patients in the department, there may be some long waits.

"We are sorry if you're not seen as quickly as you would like. Please know that the team is doing all they can.

“If your condition isn't life or limb-threatening and you can avoid going to A&E by either visiting your GP surgery, going to a local pharmacy or contacting NHS 111 for advice, that could potentially prevent you having a long wait.

“Thank you for your patience and understanding.”
