Emergency services were called to an Accrington High Street after a man scaled the roof of a property.

The incident happened early on Saturday morning on Abbey Street as shoppers were due to head to area. Police closed the road in both directions as officers attempted to speak to the man.

Police said the ‘concern for welfare’ incident was resolved later in the morning and the road was reopened to all traffic.

Abbey Street is home to number of small businesses who were affected by the incident.

Charity Maundy Relief said the drop-in sessions would be closed.

A statement read: "We are very sorry but due to an ongoing incident on Abbey Street, Maundy Relief's drop-in will be closed today and no lunches will be served. We kindly ask our guests not to come to the drop-in today, but we will be open as usual on Monday. Thank you."
