A family described their devastation after their talented teenager was discovered dead after a night out in Astley Bridge.

Harrison Rimmer, known as Harry, was discovered dead outside his home on Oaks Lane, off Bradshaw Brow, on January 28 of this year.

At Bolton Coroner's Court this week an inquest heard how the 19-year-old, who was one of three children to parents Robert Rimmer and Melanie Rimmer, was a talented teenager who worked for the family firm as a roofer. The 19-year-old had a house of his own away from Oaks Lane which he was in the process of renovating before renting out.

Mr and Mrs Rimmer, and aunt Paula Derbyshire, described their devastation to the assistant coroner Michael Pemberton.

Mr Rimmer said: "My son had an appetite for success. He was a student at Bolton College, and his tutor said he was the best student, always the first in and the last out.

"He took on the renovation of what was an ex-drug den and was in need of a renovation. He transformed it from what you can imagine to completion. This was my son."

Mrs Rimmer said: "We spent a long time trying to think of things we should've seen, analysing everything, but he had so much drive to do things and he had so much drive to get where he wanted to be.

"We had conversations about mental health and he never said anything to alarm any of us."

Harry was discovered dead after a night out in Astley Bridge at The Bay Mare Pub, The Pineapple pub and a takeaway.

He was involved in an argument at The Bay Mare, and at the takeaway, something one friend said was out of character.

The cause of death was asphyxiation by ligature but the assistant coroner said there was no evidence of an intention to take his own life.

In the absence of evidence of an intention to take his own life, or of any suspicious circumstances after an investigation by Greater Manchester Police, Mr Pemberton came to a narrative conclusion.

He said: "There is no evidence of an intention to cause self harm and the act, whatever it was, is unfathomable by members of his family.

"It is it more likely this was an ill-thought-out act after consuming alcohol on a night out when it was noted he was acting out of character."

He said: "I would wish to express my condolences to each of you, his family, his friends.

"I hope you can start to move on from this dark, dark chapter you have had to endure. My thoughts will remain with you all after today."
