A housing association has been shortlisted for an award for its programme to help reduce carbon emissions and tackle climate change.

The programme, run by Together Housing, has gained national recognition, with the social housing provider now shortlisted in the category of landlord of the year in the 2024 Unlock Net Zero Awards.

The awards champion progress on the journey to decarbonisation for the UK housing, built environment and property sectors, together with the professional services and supply chains that support them.

Jon Schofield, head of carbon reduction delivery at Together Housing Group, said: “I’m delighted our decarbonisation programme has been shortlisted in the Unlock Net Zero Awards.

"Our staff, leadership and board are committed to making homes warmer, reducing residents’ energy bills and lowering carbon emissions.

“All housing providers have a responsibility to build sustainable communities. We’re proud of the work we’ve already done, but there is much more for us to do over several years of planned energy improvements.”

With homes across Yorkshire and Lancashire, Together Housing has an ambitious plan to move more than 30,000 of its homes away from fossil fuels to renewable energy and lead the way in greener social housing.

The association is installing insulation and air source heat pumps to make residents’ homes more energy efficient, along with fitting solar power systems.

The Unlock Net Zero Awards organisers said: “We had an overwhelming response to the awards this year and our judging panel has been impressed with the high standard and quality of entries, so many congratulations on making the shortlist.”

Together Housing is a finalist in the landlord of the year - public sector/housing association category. This celebrates social housing landlords that have a clear commitment to the net zero agenda and have created and maintained net zero homes.

To deliver its retrofit programme at scale and pace, Together Housing is working with suppliers such as specialist heating contractor, Rothwells Plumbing Services, in Yorkshire.

Rothwells has also been nominated in the Unlock Net Zero Awards in the collaboration of the year – retrofit projects category, for its work with Together Housing.

The winners will be announced at a sustainably focused awards ceremony on Wednesday June 26, taking place alongside Housing 2024 at Manchester Central.
