A Lampeter shop has been shortlisted for a Small Award.

The Snail of Happiness, located in Lampeter, has made the cut as a finalist in this year's High Street Hero category at The Small Awards.

The competition, now in its eighth year, aims to spotlight the best of Britain's small firms across all sectors.

It is hosted by Small Business Britain, an organisation dedicated to supporting, inspiring, and promoting the country's 5.5 million small businesses.

Jan Martin and Jon Sayer are the creative minds behind The Snail of Happiness, which sells a mix of pre-loved crafting materials and new British yarn with a focus on promoting sustainability, a circular economy, and community craftsmanship.

The shop also provides classes on making and mending as well as drop in sessions.

The store's unique blend of environmental commitment and community support has culminated in it being acknowledged as one of eight finalists for the High Street Hero Award.

This category recognises and rewards independent businesses that contribute significantly to local high streets and communities.

Jan Martin said: "We are thrilled to have been shortlisted for the High Street Hero award.

"After opening our doors two years ago, it is incredibly gratifying to be recognised in this way.

"We have had amazing support from the community, along with help and advice from Smart Busnes and the Cynnal Y Cardi fund.

"We feel that being shortlisted is, in part, down to that."

According to Michelle Ovens CBE, founder of Small Business Britain: "The Small Awards is all about celebrating the inspiring small business owners who are at the heart of the economy and their communities.

"They are an opportunity to recognise and applaud the passion and resilience of the nation's small firms, particularly amidst such turbulent times.

"The Snail of Happiness is extremely deserving of being shortlisted for this award and we can't wait to celebrate with them in May."

The winners will be selected by a panel of industry experts.

The announcement will take place at an awards ceremony on May 16, 2024, at St Mary’s church in London.
