Two new food stalls have opened at Blackburn Market, bringing flavours of the world to the town.

A sushi counter and an Italian eatery opened on May 1 and the council has wished the businesses “all the best in their new home”.

Shinsen Sushi Experience is operated by Dimitrios Kalliontzis, who has six years of experience as a sushi chef.

The site specialises in Sushi rolls, poke bowls, ‘baked sushi muffins’, and poke bowls, all made with halal-certified ingredients.

Dimitrios said: “Our open fridge will be stocked with freshly rolled sushi, with our chef rolling at the back and putting it on display for you to choose from.

“If you don’t see the roll you want, just ask one of our staff members and we can roll it for you after you place your order.

“Some rolls, like torched salmon or torched beef, can’t be put on the fridge.

“While we can’t provide live sushi rolling for each individual due to our kitchen size, you can still catch a glimpse of our chef in action over the counter as they prepare delicious rolls for you to enjoy!”

The second stall, Little Italian, is owned by Kashif Khalid. Here, you can grab pasta, pizza, chicken, wraps and beyond.

Martin Eden, strategic director of environment and operations at Blackburn with Darwen Council,  said the market continues to be a “favourite lunchtime destination” for town centre workers.

He said: “It’s fantastic to welcome two new food stalls to Blackburn Market. The food court offers excellent value for money and a wide variety of food choices, with something for everyone.

“It continues to be a favourite lunchtime destination for town centre workers, shoppers, and students alike and we have recently increased the number of seating areas available to enable customers to enjoy their meal in the heart of the market.

“I wish both businesses all the very best in their new home.”
