Drivers are being warned of long delays on a busy Blackburn road.

Montague Street, close to Oakenhurst Road, has been dug up to repair a gas leak with work expected to last up until at least the end of the week.

Traffic is backed up on Barbara Castle Way all the way up to the junction with Preston New Road. In the opposite direction, there are long delays with traffic joining Montague Street from Wainwright Way and King Street.

Drivers should look to avoid the stretch at peak times if possible.

Works began today (Monday, April 29) and will continue until Friday, with two-way temporary traffic lights in place.

Lancashire Telegraph:

Motorists wanting to travel from one side of town to the other can head through the town centre by turning right on Feilden Street.

On Preston New Road, work was continuing to fix the water leak at the junction with Billinge Avenue. A three-way traffic light system is in place. This should be completed by Wednesday May 1

Resurfacing work

Motorists are also being warned of resurfacing works taking place on Preston Old Road, between Preston Old Road Bridge and Feniscliffe Drive today (Monday).

The work should take approximately one week depending on weather conditions, Blackburn with Darwen Roads team said.

On Thursday work will be stopped to minimise disruption for residents to attend to their polling stations.

Green Lane, where it meets Preston Old Road, will be closed.
