A crash between a pedestrian and a vehicle resulted in major delays of up to an hour on the M6 motorway today (Tuesday, April 23).

Lancashire Police officers dealt with a crash on the M6 Northbound at Junction 32 for the M55 at around 3.30pm this afternoon.

Reports stated that the crash involved a pedestrian and a vehicle, and closed the carriageway resulting in re-directions.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: "We were called to reports of a collision between a pedestrian and a vehicle on the M6 Northbound at Junction 32.

"The carriageway is currently closed.

"We'd ask you to avoid the area, and will bring you an update when we are able."

Severe delays are continuing into the evening with two lanes still closed at 7.30pm. 

There is congestion to just before J30 for the M61 interchange.

The motorway was closed for just after four hours, after which lanes one and two (of five) remain closed.

All lanes re-opened at around 8pm, over four hours since the incident first occurred.

North West Ambulance Service have been contacted for comment.
