A gym in Barnoldswick could be turned into a high-end bar that serves food and boasts live music.

Plans to convert the site, in the Majestic Buildings complex at the corner of Albert Road and Fern Lea Avenue, into a “high-end drinking establishment” have been submitted to Pendle Council.

Mark Hickey, of Hickey’s Bar LTD, submitted the plans at the end of March.

If plans are approved, the site is set to be called Hickey’s and Friends.

The proposal has also outlined plans to introduce live and recorded music throughout the week. The applicant also plans to serve food.

It is set to be open from 9am until 11pm, Monday to Sunday.

Before being turned into a gym and personal training studio, called Kyle Longbottom Fitness Management, the site was a shop called Majestic Discounts, and a wine bar.

It was also a former Majestic Picture House, which Matthew Hartley opened in 1914. It closed in the ‘80s.

The property opened in 1914, with a mock Tudor frontage comprising a timber structure.

As the property is within a conservation area, the plan has taken great care to ensure there are no significant changes to the external appearance of the building.

The original shopfront and windows are set to be redecorated using similar paint colours.

Plans have been outlined to make internal changes, which include the creation of new male, female and disabled toilets, a kitchen and a store room.

Navy and gold furnishings have been planned for the interiors.

If the bar opens, the site is expected to take on three full-time and two part-time staff members.

Anyone wishing to comment on the planning application can do so by completing a representation form. This must be returned by April 23.
