A flyover from an Avro Lancaster bomber has been confirmed for the upcoming armed forces day in Burnley this summer.

The flyover will take place for the Uniformed Services Family Fun Day, which will take place on Saturday, June 22, at Towneley Park.

The event, run by Healthier Heroes CIC, will run from 10am to 4pm, with the flyover from the iconic World War 2 bomber due for 3.15pm.

Alongside this it will feature fairground rides, an army assault course, brass band performances, police horse and dog displays, plus military vehicles and equipment, cadet groups, food stalls and information on the armed forces.

Also returning is the Candy Bomber commemoration put on by estate agent Pendle Hill Properties, remembering American pilot Gail Halvorsen who gained fame for air-dropping 23 tonnes of sweets and chocolate from his plane to children in Berlin in 1948.

Children under 12 will be handed 250 parachute men and Hershey chocolate bars at the event on a first come, first served basis.

Thomas Turner, sales director at Pendle Hill Properties, said: "We are delighted to be taking part in this fantastic community event once again in 2024.

"It was great to meet so many new people last year and we are excited to be giving away 250 Hershey bars and 250 parachute men to Under 12s, as well as meeting their parents and guardians to talk about the services we provide when it comes to selling or letting their properties."

Andrew Powell, managing director and co-founder of Healthier Heroes CIC, added: "I would like to thank everyone at Pendle Hill Properties for supporting our event again this year.

"Their attraction was very well received in 2023 and will no doubt be one of the highlights of an even bigger and better Uniformed Services Family Fun Day in June, which will include the flypast of an Avro Lancaster."

Healthier Heroes CIC works with armed forces veterans to overcome social isolation, homelessness, and improve their mental health and wellbeing.
