Two people are set to turn a former pie factory in Haslingden into their dream home, in an episode of a Channel 4 show which airs tonight (April 10).

The duo, known only as Sam and Jimmy, are to appear on George Clarke’s Remarkable Renovations this evening. On the show, architect George Clark meets people who are repurposing old and unused buildings and turning them into extraordinary homes.

They bought a former Holland’s Pies factory, on John Street in Haslingden, for £160,000. They sold two of their properties and are using their life savings to turn the factory into their dream home.

Pie maker Walter Holland opened the pie factory, on the Haslingden street, in the early 1900s. The business continued production here for 30 years before moving to bigger premises.

On the episode, which airs at 8pm, viewers will see the renovations the couple has carried out since purchasing the property.

Furniture Components UK LTD, in Rawtenstall, said it helped decorate the property over 18 months.  The company specialises in fitting properties with bespoke furniture.

It provided furniture for the kitchen and dining space with plans to furnish other rooms in the future.

One of the company directors, Ben Johnson, said: “I was approached by Sam back in 2021 who told me about the sheer size of the project she was taking on.

“It’s going to be an amazing property and it has come along so far compared to where we started.

“It was daunting when I first saw the space. It was the biggest room I had ever taken on.  When we started to design the kitchen I put a large island in there but it was lost in the room. We opted for a double island.

“A lot of work needed to go into it just to get it to a stage where it was ready for furniture fitting. Some of the bare walls were [from the Victorian era] and there were pulley systems throughout.”

Ben was not filmed for the show but says he is happy to have taken part behind the scenes.

He said: “It is the first time I have worked on a project that will be broadcast on television. I am glad to have taken part and it does look incredible – so I am incredibly proud.

“We’ve seen the photos but to watching it air and hearing from our clients will be interesting.”

A spokesperson for Channel 4 said: “It’s not often you get the chance to live in a 5000 square foot building but that’s exactly the opportunity Sam and Jimmy have at the Victorian pie factory they’ve just bought for £160,000.

“Project manager Sam and plasterer Jimmy have sold both their houses and are pouring their life savings into this supersized renovation, but can their expertise in the trade help them enough to make this dream a reality?”
