A primary school in Accrington said it is facing repair and CCTV costs of around £20,000 after break-ins and vandalism.

Police are said to be looking into the incident.

Peel Park Primary School was broken into last night (April 4) and the head teacher, David Waites, said this is “the latest in a number of incidents”.

Damage has been caused to the early years area, forest school, learning cabins and swimming pool. A flat screen television has been stolen.

The school said “extensive CCTV” has been fitted, taking ongoing repair costs to more than £20,000.

David said he hopes the community can come together to prevent the school from being damaged further.

He said: “We’ve avoided posting on social media regarding the ongoing security issues at our school but last night school was broken into with significant damage caused and items stolen.

“This is the latest in a number of incidents, including damage to our early years area, our forest school, learning cabins and now our new school swimming pool.

“Thank you to the neighbours who contacted the police last night - someone must know who chooses to continue to vandalise our school.

“Police are involved and we have now had extensive and updated CCTV fitted, taking ongoing repair costs to more than £20,000.

“If you have any information, including who is in receipt of a new flat screen television from our cabin, please contact the police or school directly.

“We hope as a community we can come together and stop these vandals from causing any further damage.

“A clear reminder to all-school property must not be accessed outside of school hours. This is trespassing and we continue to report every incident to the police.”

A police spokesperson said this has been reported and is under investigation. Anyone with information has been asked to call 101 quoting log reference: LC-20240403-0212.
