A NEW spring programme celebrating Blackburn's canalside spaces is set to be launched by an arts collective later this month.

Culture agency Super Slow Way is behind the activities centred around land near the Leeds Liverpool Canal, which snakes through East Lancashire.

Their Audley Space is located on the field next to Jan's in Higher Audley Street and their Mill Hill Space can be found at the Canalside Activity and Environment Centre at the end of Bonsall Street.

A Super Slow Way spokesman said: "There will be a host of creative activities, archery, canoeing and delicious food across our Audley and Mill Hill spaces and Eanam Wharf, as well as the return of our spinning and weaving school at Blackburn Market.

"There will also be an opportunity to hear about what Super Slow Way has planned over the next year and ways in which you can get involved. All activities are free or donation based and all are welcome."

The launch day is Saturday, April 20, with a packed programme pledged between 11am and 4pm.

For the Audley Space there is an almanac workshop, a 40-minute long foraging, which requires bookings, nature-inspired embroidery, a workshop entitled 'Pakistani Pilau & Pakoras', a spinning workshop and sunflower planting.

Meanwhile the Mill Hill Space will host archery and axe throwing, a barbecue, a food workshop and live music.

Activities at Eanam Wharf include canoeing between the location and the Audley Space, Calypso Caribbean Food, a Me to a Tee pop-up and screenprinting, Not just a Street Market, Drift Pop-Up Radio and barge trips on board the Bill Hunt.

Blackburn Market will see the return of the spinning and weaving School with The Forest of Bowland Guild of Spinners, Dyers & Weavers.
