An arrest has been made as police investigate a stabbing in Blackburn.

On Monday (April 1) police released a CCTV image of two men they wanted to speak with. This is after officers were called to Shadsworth Road, to reports of a stabbing. 

A man in his 50s was taken to hospital after being stabbed in the arm, where he was in a serious but stable condition.

Both men in the image have now been identified.

A 19-year-old man was arrested in Liverpool yesterday and has since been detained under the mental health act.

The second man is assisting police with enquiries. 

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.

A police spokesperson said: “Yesterday we asked for your help identifying two men we wanted to speak to after a man in his 50s was stabbed in Shadsworth Road, Blackburn.

“Just to update you, we have now identified both men.

“A 19-year-old man was arrested in Liverpool yesterday and has since been detained under the Mental Health Act.

“The other man is assisting us with our enquiries.

“We are continuing to investigate this offence and gather evidence. We will seek to progress with a prosecution at the earliest opportunity.

“We want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who shared our appeal.”
