Residents in East Lancashire's largest borough have been reminded that they have until 11.59pm on Tuesday, April 16, to register to vote in May's local elections.

There will be three sets of polls in Blackburn with Darwen on Thursday, May 2, along with votes in other boroughs.

They are for Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council; the Lancashire Police and Crime Commissioner; and for Darwen Town Council and the borough's parish councils.

For local residents to be able to vote in these elections, they need to be on the electoral register.

It’s quick and easy to register online to vote at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.

Denise Park, chief executive of Blackburn with Darwen Council and Returning Officer for elections in the borough, said: "While May still feels like a long way off, there are less than three weeks left to register to vote.

"Being on the electoral register means you can have your say in local and national elections, and it also helps with things like credit checks.

"If you aren’t sure whether you’re already registered to vote, my advice is to check now.

"You can check if you’re already registered to vote by contacting the Council’s Elections team."
