A road closure and several bus diversions will be in place this weekend as an East Lancashire town hosts an Easter event.

Market Street in Colne will be partly closed for the Easter in Colne event this Saturday (March 30), the town council’s annual Easter celebration.

The road will be closed from the junction of Church Street and Windy Bank down to the traffic lights on Market Street from 6am to 10pm.

Bus services will also be affected, with services M5 and M6 to Barnoldswick and Skipton operating via Queen Street, North Valley Road, and Skipton Road.

Services M3 and M4 will operate via Queen Street, North Valley Road, and Skipton Road, and then return to the normal route along Keighley Road.

Journeys heading towards Nelson and Burnley will be unaffected.

The event, organised by Colne Town Council, will feature an array of free activities, including donkey rides, face painting, crazy golf, rodeo sheep, archery, circus shows and workshops, magic, balloon modelling, and more.

There will be an Easter market with more than 45 traders, a variety of funfair rides, and a surprise special guest.

There will also be free Easter goodies handed out by Willy Wonka and his Oompa Loompas, performances from the Accrington Pipe Band, and an Easter egg trail.

The council’s events and facilities officer Nathan Cutler said: “Easter in Colne is always such an incredible event. The 2023 event was so busy and we cannot wait to do it all over again this year.

“It really kickstarts the beginning of the warmer months and we cannot wait to showcase some fantastic family-friendly entertainment in Colne.

“The event will include so many brilliant free activities and performances, allowing people to come and spend a day out in Colne without having to worry too much about the costs involved.”

The event is being sponsored and supported by West Riding Hyundai, Farmhouse Biscuits Ltd, and Asda Colne.
