Drivers are being warned to find an alternative route through the town centre following an emergency road closure.

A section of Northgate outside the new Akbar’s and Blackburn Library has been closed.

Drivers heading to this area of the town centre will be forced to turn their vehicles around as Blakey Moor is also closed due to ongoing renovations of the Victoria Building.

Blackburn with Darwen Council said: “Please be advised there is currently an emergency road closure in place outside King Georges Hall on Northgate to repair a leaking water main.

“A diversion route is in place on site and United Utilities are working to repair this as soon as possible."

The council added: "There is no access to King Georges Hall via Blakey Moor.

"For vehicles needed to drop off passengers for events at King Georges Hall, drivers should use Preston New Road, Northgate and drop off on Duke Street, travelling back to Barbara Castle Way via Alma Street.”
