A road closure has been put in place in Colne due to a burst water pipe.

Lancashire Police say they are assisting United Utilities and have put a closure in place on Burnley Road from Winewalls to Colne train station.

United Utilities are in the area trying to fix the burst but the police have said this may take some time and therefore the road will be closed for a while.

As a result, Primet Primary School was forced to close.

Anyone needing to travel in that direction is asked to find an alternative route.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said earlier this morning (March 18): "We want to make you aware that we are currently assisting United Utilities, and are putting a road closure in place on Burnley Road, Colne, from Whitewalls Drive through to Colne Railway Station.

"This is due to a burst water pipe.

"Work is currently underway to fix this, however it's likely the road will be closed for some time.

"Please find alternative routes when travelling. We will provide an update once the road has been re-opened."

A spokesperson for United Utilities said: "Our team have been out and identified a leak on the water main.

"We’re in the process of planning the works and will have a team of engineers on site as soon as possible.

"We’re sorry for the inconvenience and will be out to get this repaired soon."
