This snowy scene gives us an unusual view of Blackburn town centre.
Although we don’t have a date for the photo, we suspect it is from the mid-Sixties when the whole area around Salford and the town centre was starting to be redeveloped and a new market and shopping centre was changing from a dream into a reality.
This picture was taken on Ainsworth Street looking towards the junction with Church Street and Railway Road.
On the right you can see the distinctive side entrance to Woolworth’s, for so long a landmark in the town centre. Today, Blackburn’s indoor market stands on the site of that building
We wonder if any Looking Back readers can identify the impressive four-storey building on the left of Ainsworth Street.
