Hundreds turned out at one of the largest funerals Blackburn has seen in recent years.

The long convoy of vehicles headed to Bolton from 10am on Wednesday (March 13) for the funeral service for a much-loved Jim Young, known to many as 'Sloppy Jim'.

The procession began at Lower Eccleshill Road and then headed towards Hollins Grove Street and then on to the A666.

From 12pm the cortège set off back to Darwen and then to Blackburn. The line of cars then made its way though Pleasington and on to the cemetery.

Hundreds of family, friends and well-wishers made this one of the largest send offs in many years.

The procession was led by a hearse, followed by trucks, vans and cars and made its way through Pleasington at around 1pm.

Dozens of vehicles followed the hearse and floral tributes to the ‘One and only Sloppy Jim’ could be seen on a back of truck as it made its way into the cemetery.

People were keen to pay their respects as the procession went by with people standing to observe the convoy of cars as they passed.

Hundreds also paid tributes to Mr Young online.
