A WOMAN has been banned from having any contact with her grandma, mother and sister for 18 months following a second set of offences involving her family.

Blackburn magistrates heard Tania Derbyshire was already subject to a suspended prison sentence when she assaulted her mum and damaged a candle belonging to her sister.

Derbyshire, 26, of Roe Lee Park, Blackburn, was convicted in her absence of assaulting Lorraine Smith, her mother, and criminal damage.

The suspended sentence was activated by magistrates and she was jailed for a total of 26 weeks.

She was made subject to a restraining order for 18 months which prohibits any contact with Lilia Smith, her grandmother, her mother and her sister, Leah Derbyshire.

Passing sentence, District Judge Alexandra Preston said Derbyshire had committed the new offences while subject to a suspended prison sentence imposed for violence offences against the same members of her family.

“You obviously have real issues with regard to substance abuse and bad attitudes towards the people who have said they love you,” said District Judge Preston.

“You can’t keep behaving like this towards members of your own family.”

In a statement relayed to the court Lorraine Smith said her daughter needed to learn that she couldn’t keep causing problems by demanding money from her and her grandmother and taking drugs.

Jonathan Taylor, defending, said while subject to a suspended sentence his client had committed further offences against the same people.

“As a result she has to expect the worst,” said Mr Taylor.

“There are clearly issues and she would welcome the opportunity to continue to work with the Probation Service and the community drugs team.

“There is clearly love there from members of her family,” said Mr Taylor.

“If she gets herself drug-free and starts to behave in a positive manner her family would welcome her back but the relationships are clearly very broken at the moment.”
