Residents and visitors got the chance to learn about the unknown stories of Nelson in a series of immersive walks through the town.

Audiences listened through headphones to the stories of local people as projections lit up the walls and streets around them. 

‘Stories We Tell: Nelson’, aims to being real stories from the people who live there and being provided by This is Nelson; the arts and culture strand of the Nelson Town Deal.

In partnership with Breaking Barriers, the walks are free to attend and people are guided through the streets, listening to the personal reflections of real people, and enjoying visual imagery, animation and soundscapes.

One participant said: “It brought the town to life and was a powerful and heartwarming experience - such a fantastic advert for the place. 

"It was fascinating and moving to see newer life stories overlaid on its streets and buildings. A big boost for civic pride.”

Another said: "A wonderful evening walking the streets of Nelson engaging in a fantastic immersive experience from This is Nelson”.

The work is the culmination of a series of conversations and dialogue between the creators, Breaking Barriers, Lancashire County Council's Cultural Services and local communities of Nelson which have uncovered insights into real experiences and feelings about Nelson over recent decades.
