The Mayor and Mayoress of Blackburn with Darwen has thanked guests for helping raise £4,200 for good causes at an annual charity ball.

Councillor Parwaiz Akhtar, Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen, marked the culmination of his mayoral year with the gala dinner at King George’s Hall over the weekend.

The event raised funds to support Mayor Akhtar's three chosen charities - ELHT&Me, East Lancashire Hospice and Nightsafe.

Mayor Parwaiz Akhtar and his wife, Mayoress Shagufta Akhtar, welcomed 260 guests, including sponsors and representatives of community groups from across the borough.

Cllr Akhtar said, "I am delighted with how well the ball went. We raised a substantial amount for three excellent causes, and guests thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

“This success underscores what can be achieved when we bring together support from the community, sponsors, partners, and our dedicated council teams."

Lancashire Telegraph:

ELHT&Me was praised for exemplary work across East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust, delivering healthcare services from conception, through life, to end-of-life care.

East Lancashire Hospice was acknowledged for its compassionate care, while Nightsafe was commended for its commitment to alleviating the plight of homeless and vulnerable young people.

Cllr added: "I want to express my heartfelt thanks to my wife, family, friends, fellow town councillors, civic guests, the three chosen charities, and the dedicated team at Blackburn with Darwen council.

“Their hard work was instrumental in ensuring the ball was a tremendous success."

The evening featured musical entertainment, a three-course meal, an auction, bottle draw, raffle, and party games.

The charity ball was supported by Nybble with JW Lees as the drinks reception sponsor.
