Foundations are being laid for a major new development close to Blackburn Centre.
The land opposite Home Bargains on the corner of King Street and Wainwright Way has been cleared to make way for six commercial units.
This week, workers were pouring tonnes of concrete on the first section of the new development. Further work is set to be completed in the coming days.
Developers said structural work would start soon after.
Wainwright Estates NW Limited, which bought the plot of land from the council submitted a planning application in 2021, but no work was conducted at the site until early in 2023 when the derelict land was finally cleared.
Plans for the commercial units (Plans Wainwright Estates NW Limited)
Access to the site will be from Freckleton Street and the units will face westwards into the car park towards Wainwright Way and Home Bargains.
The new build will come as a welcome boost for the immediate area which has seen several businesses take up the spots in King Street.
Plans show five commercial units together next to one another and the sixth nearby, all with off-street parking.
The application says: “The units would be fitted with grey powder-coated aluminium frontages and windows with roller shutter doors also proposed.
"A shared parking area would be provided adjacent to Wainwright Way with bin storage and service areas also provided.”
