A couple have applied to the council to turn a disused barn that was once part of a country estate into a home.

Kiln Lane Barn, in Gisburn Road, Sawley, is owned by John and Zoe Weare and was formerly part of the Gisburn Cotes Hall Estate.

The barn was used to house beef cattle until the 1990s but is now not suitable for modern agriculture and has not been used for more than 20 years.

The development proposed to Ribble Valley Borough Council will include the barn conversion, the installation of a foul water system and surface water tank, and landscaping.

A design and access statement said: “The proposed development involves the conversion of the barn into a four-bedroom residential dwelling.

"The conversion will be restricted to the existing building with no extensions or alterations to existing internal walls beyond new openings.

“Existing windows and doors will be replaced with timber-framed double-glazed windows to maximise light.

"The creation of new openings will be the minimum requirement to enable the building to function as a residential dwelling.

“The proposed design will preserve the resonance of an agricultural barn appropriate to the setting and character of the area.”

Kiln Lane Barn is part of a collection of buildings known as Gisburn Cotes. Access to the site will be from the A59.
