There are long delays for drivers heading southbound on the M6 leading up to the junction at Preston and Blackburn.
North West Highways said two lanes were closed between Junction 31 and Junction 30, following the crash.
There were around 5 miles of congestion on approach, causing delays of 40 minutes above usual journey times.
The #M6 southbound between J31 (#Preston) and J30 (#M61), lanes 1 and 2 (of 4) are closed due to a collision.

Traffic was backed up to junction 32 at the M55.
