A drunk pickup truck driver was more than two times over the limit when his vehicle crashed into a woman's car causing one of his wheels to come off.

Blackburn magistrates heard driver Seth Kirkbride was heavily intoxicated and said he was going to drive off after crashing his Isuzu D-Max on September 30.

The car owner told him: “Good luck with that, you have only got three wheels.”

Kirkbride, 50, of Burnley Road, Colne, admitted to driving with excess alcohol. He blew 85 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml of breath, more than double the legal limit of 35mcg.

He was fined £120 with £85 costs and banned from driving for 20 months.

Julia Draper, prosecuting, said the owner of the damaged car was at her mother’s home in North Valley Road, Colne, when she heard the crash.

“The defendant’s vehicle had crashed into her car with considerable force and both vehicles were extensively damaged,” said Miss Draper.

Kirkbride walked off after it was pointed out he only had three wheels on his pickup, and police found him leaning against a wall nearby.

The woman’s car had been written off as a result.

Kirkbride said he wished to apologise to the car owner and the court.

“I am utterly, utterly ashamed about this,” he said.

“It has ruined my building business, I can’t see my daughter, I have scrapped the van and I haven’t had a drink since.”
