A pub in Accrington is preparing to welcome customers back today (February 22) after undergoing a huge £287,000 transformation.

The Whitakers Arms, on Burnley Road, is set to reopen at 12pm after being closed for nearly six weeks.

Vanessa Wolfenden is taking the reins as the new licensee and her husband Jamie Wolfenden will also be a key part of the new team.

The revamp has transformed The Whitakers Arms, owned by Star Pubs and Bars, into a “great quality family-friendly pub” that caters for the whole community. It boasts a revamped games room, spacious function room and a new menu.

In January, plans were announced to renovate the exterior of the old sandstone pub with new lighting, signage and planting.

To celebrate the pub’s reopening, there will be live music on the evening of Saturday, February 24.

Vanessa said: “The refurbishment has exceeded all our expectations. The pub looks fantastic.

“We’re over the moon and can’t wait to show everyone their new look local. There’s been lots of excitement and interest – we’ve already got bookings for meals and functions. We’ve had a warm welcome from the community.

“We’re very grateful for their support, it has made us feel really at home.”

Vanessa, who previously owned a sports therapy business, said: “It’s a dream come true. Jamie and I have always wanted a pub and have been looking for the right place for a year. I knew The Whitakers was ‘the one’ as soon as I walked in.

“I’m incredibly excited and can’t wait to open the doors.”
