Two lanes were closed on the M6 in Lancashire this morning (February 21) causing delays of up to 40 minutes.

Lanes on the M6 northbound, between J28 (Clayton-le-Woods) and J29 (M65) were closed for emergency pothole repairs, at around 9.30am. National Highways warned of 40 minute delays.

The lanes have since reopened and the pothole repair is complete.

At the time of writing, there is still a build-up of traffic in the area of around 30 minutes.

A spokesperson for National Highways said: “Two out of three lanes are closed on the M6 in Lancashire northbound between J28 (Clayton-le-Woods) and J29 (M65) to allow a safety critical pothole to be repaired. Service providers are in attendance. Delays of 40 minutes on approach, please allow extra journey time.

“The pothole repair is complete and all lanes have now re-opened on the M6 in Lancashire northbound between J28 (Clayton-le-Woods) and J29 (M65).

“Delays should start to ease soon. Thank you for your patience, please have a safe onward journey.”
