Police closed part of the M65 in the early hours of the morning (February 20) for around 40 minutes, officers confirmed. 

They were called at around 3.20am with a concern for welfare report.

The issue was resolved and the motorway reopened at 4am.

A police spokesperson said: “We can confirm that the M65 is now fully re-opened. Thank you for your patience and have a safe journey.

"It was a concern for welfare, safely resolved. Call came at 3.20am, motorway reopened at 4am.”

According to AA Traffic and Travel, traffic is “heavier than normal” on the M65 this morning, which might affect some motorists’ commute to work.

Traffic is heavy on the M65 Westbound, at junction three.

A spokesperson for AA Traffic and Travel said: “Traffic heavier than normal on M65 Westbound at J3 A674 Chorley Road (Blackburn West / Wheelton).”
