Traffic was held up by a “medical incident” along a stretch of motorway earlier today, causing delays and tailbacks.

The incident took place on the M65 Westbound from junction 4 A666 Earcroft Way at Darwen and Blackburn South to junction 3 A674 Chorley Road at Blackburn West and Wheelton.

Eyewitnesses reported that tailback and delays had been caused along the stretch of motorway earlier on Friday February 16.

A passing commuter said: “It looks to be easing now but think there were mega tailbacks and delays earlier.”

But by around 5pm that afternoon all lanes had been reopened and traffic was flowing again.

According to traffic analytics organisation Inrix, traffic around Blackburn was briefly held on Friday afternoon but has now been reported as having eased off.

No further details have been released about the “medical incident” but no injuries or damage to vehicles have been reported as a result.
