A couple who supplied drugs across Blackburn from their home over a period of three years recruited their teenage son to work for them.

Rafiq, 50, and Zara Jamadar, 47, ran the extensive operation from their family home, using one of their sons as an employee and continuing to deal and use the home as a hub while their younger son was present.

The house was searched a number of times by the police, as was a second property associated with Rafiq Jamadar, which uncovered cannabis and other paraphernalia such as cash and mobile phones.

Around £60,000 in cash was found inside the boot of a black BMW car inside the garage of the home. Both Rafiq and Zara Jamadar were found to be insured for the vehicle.

During the sentencing hearing at Preston Crown Court, Judge Ian Unsworth said: “The drugs were stored around your house. Recordings in the house caught you in your lounge directing matters, dealing, and counting large amounts of cash that came with this business.

“Your oldest son, 17, was recruited within the family business.

“Analysis of your mobile phones presented a devastating picture of everyday life in your family home. Messages depict with all too crystal clear clarity the fact you abandoned your parental responsibilities.

“Your young child was present at the time supply was taking place in your house, thus exposing him to all the perils associated with this activity.”

Both Rafiq and Zara Jamadar pleaded guilty to two counts of conspiracy to supply class B drugs, while Zara Jamadar also pleaded guilty to an offence of being concerned in the supply of class A drugs.

It was said she would pass on messages to others involved in the supply of class A drugs, though received no money and no rewards for this.

Upon their arrest, each gave no comment answers during interview.

Judge Unsworth added: “I am satisfied each of you played a leading role in the Jamadar family business of peddling drugs.”

Zara Jamadar, of Higher Audley Street, Blackburn was sentenced to five years and four months in prison, while Rafiq Jamadar, of Sicely Court, Blackburn, was sentenced to four years and nine months.
