We love to find amazing venues to socialise with family and friends in Lancashire with our 'Pub of the Week' feature.

This week, we have chosen an eatery in Clitheroe that won 'Gastropub of the Year' at the Estrella Damm National Restaurant Awards.

Name of the pub: Parkers Arms.

Address of the pub: Hall Gate Hill, Newton-In-Bowland, Nr Clitheroe, BB7 3DY.

Chef Stosie Madi and Kathy Smith acquired the pub in January 2007, and since then, has sat at number one on the Estrella Damm Top 50 Gastropubs list.

It now sits just outside the top 10 on the 2023 list at number 12, with all food, including ice creams, breads and chutneys, is prepared fresh on the premises.

Lancashire Telegraph:

The Estrella Damm National Restaurant Awards website states that what makes the pub special is Ched Madi herself: "A true chefs’ chef for whom nothing is too much trouble in the pursuit of the best quality gastropub food.

"Madi’s menu is a roll call of hearty regional and global food featuring local Lancashire produce and which can change twice daily depending on seasonality and availability.

"Don’t be fooled, this isn’t a restaurant occupying a pub building. Parkers Arms serves a selection of local cask ales and draught lagers as well as a wine list that caters equally to cheap-and-cheerful lunches or long, indulgent suppers and welcomes people popping in for a pint after a dog walk as it does travelling gourmands for that special occasion."

The menu typically features local grilled fish of the day, alongside a selection of pies while other pub classics include top-quality steaks and fish and chips.

Leaving a five star review on TripAdvisor, user Kay wrote: "Had three courses. The food throughout was excellent.

"Beautifully made and cooked. Lancashire cheese and potato pie was a triumph as was the pheasant pie. We were treated with the same warm welcome and care as locals. Brilliant."
