A section of motorway was closed following a 'serious collision' involving a car earlier this afternoon, Saturday. 

Three lanes were shut on the M65 between junction 7, Accrington and junction 8, Hapton while emergency services attended the scene. 

National Highways North West alerted road users to a 'serious crash' on the M65 at around 5pm today, Saturday. 

It said all emergency services were in attendance, including air ambulance. Lancashire Police also confirmed they had attended the scene. 

Writing on its X account, National Highways North West said: "The M65 in Lancashire is CLOSED eastbound between J7 (Accrington) and J8 (Hapton) due to a serious collision involving a car.

"All emergency services including an air ambulance are in attendance. More information to follow shortly."

The motorway operator announced the road had reopened at around 5.15pm with one lane remaining closed. The incident was cleared with all lanes reopened at around 5.30pm. 

Drivers experienced delays of 25 minutes while traffic returned to normal. 

Lancashire Police and North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) have been contacted for further comment.
