Here’s an unusual photo which records the changing face of one of Blackburn’s best-known thoroughfares.
The tower you can see in the back right of the photo gives a clue as it belongs to Blackburn Cathedral.
The row of buildings which were clearly in the process of being demolished when this picture was taken in 1974 were on Darwen Street.
On the extreme left of the picture you can just make a pub sign which we believe belonged to the County Arms. The pub fared slightly better that its neighbours - it would be 1979 before it was demolished.
