Rossendale police have had a busy week, stopping uninsured drivers and motorists who led them on a chase.

On Monday, the driver of a Volkswagen Golf was stopped on Bacup Road, wit the vehicle reportedly showing as having no insurance.

Police said the driver stated they took the insurance policy out via a friend of a friend. It was said the driver was unable to provide any proof of insurance at the roadside and the vehicle was seized and driver reported.

While waiting for the above recovery a Ford Transit was stolen from Bacup which was being tracked by the owner.

The offenders left after spotting police before allegedly dumping the van nearby. The van was recovered and enquiries are now ongoing.

On Tuesday, a Ford Transit was found to have no insurance.  The driver reported and vehicle seized.

A short time later, a Peugeot 208 was being driven without any lights on in. On activating police emergency equipment, the vehicle has made off, but due to the speed the team abandoned the pursuit.

To end the shift, a Zafira had been reported as being involved in suspicious activity in Rawtenstall earlier on in the evening trying van doors.

Police later spotted the vehicle travelling through Rossendale . Officers said “it was clear that the occupants had something to hide”, driving away from police and travelling at high speed.

Due to the risk, officers abandoned the pursuit. Not being deterred the team have searched for the vehicle which was located on a rural farm track where the occupants were found still in the vehicle.

A driver was arrested for dangerous driving and failing to stop for police. Following interview the offender has been charged and bailed to appear before magistrates in April. The vehicle was also seized.

On Wednesday, in Haslingden, a Ford Transit driver had an expired licence and wasn’t covered on the insurance policy. The vehicle was seized and driver reported for the offences.

Once this was recovered police noticed a Vauxhall Vectra which had no insurance.

The vehicle parked up at a supermarket and officers have tried to speak to the driver who has decided to reverse nearly hitting an officers and driving off.

Police chased the vehicle down but lost it on an estate. The vehicle was later found  parked up and abandoned.

Then to end this shift, a yellow Peugeot 208 was reportedly seen driving in excess of the speed limit and weaving from side to side.

The driver allegedly failed a roadside drug wipe for cocaine and was arrested on suspicion of drug driving. He has now been released under investigation pending the results of the forensic blood analysis.
