A town and a city in Lancashire have been named among the UK’s most affordable places to live.

Make My Blinds carried out research and gathered data on house prices, average salaries, insolvency rates and more to reveal which areas of the UK are the most and least affordable.

Chorley and Lancaster were both named in the list of the most affordable places, each landing a spot inside the top 10.

The most affordable place to live in the UK, according to the research, is Ceredigion in Wales.

The research used ONS data for the mean annual salary for each local authority, to find the average prices of a one-bedroom flat, the median floor space of houses and mean rental prices in England.

Government data was used to find the insolvency and bankruptcy rates and average house prices.

What did the research say about Chorley and Lancaster?

Chorley is ranked in joint 7th place with Bromsgrove while Lancaster is ranked in 9th place.

The mean annual salary in Chorley is £29,453 while in Lancaster it is £28,195.

In Chorley, the monthly rental price for a one-bedroom flat would set you back £450 while in Lancaster, it would cost £495.

Chorley has an insolvency rate of 1.3 per 10,000 adults and a bankruptcy rate of 23.4 per 10,000 adults.

The average cost of a house per square metre in Chorley costs £2,362 and the town has an overall affordability score of 6.84 out of 10.
