Parts of the M6 are currently closed due to recovery work and an overturned lorry caused by Storm Isha.

An update from police at 7.23am stated the M6 Northbound is currently closed due to recovery work and earlier overturned vehicle from J43 A69 (Carlisle) to J44 A689 (Carlisle North).

An update from Highways North West at 10.39am said: "The M6 remains closed northbound between J43 and J44 to allow for two overturned lorries to be recovered.

"There are still very long delays both on approach to the closure, and also on the diversion route. Allow plenty of extra journey time this morning."

The M6 Southbound is also closed due to recovery work and earlier overturned lorries from J39 B6261 (Shap) to J38 A685 (Tebay).

Recovery resources are now in attendance. National Highways Traffic Officers are also on scene assisting with traffic management.

Diversion Route

Road users are advised to follow the Hollow Circle diversion symbol on road signs.

Exit the M6 at J39 and turn right onto the B6261 link road to access the A6

At Shap Toll Bar junction turn left onto the A6 southbound

In Kendal, follow the A6 (Wildman Street and Stramongate)

Turn left onto New Road, left onto Bridge Street and right onto Aynam Road and Lound Road

Take the third exit from roundabout signed Lancaster A6 (M6)

At Romney Road traffic signals, turn left onto the A6 southbound

South of Kendal, take the first roundabout exit onto the A591 southbound

Follow A591 and A590 to re-join the M6 at J39

Meanwhile, in Oxenholme, the A684 both ways is blocked due to fallen tree near Hayclose Lane.

The A69 has reopened after flooding earlier this morning. 

The Windermere Car Ferry is not operating today due to strong winds on Windermere.
