Taken in 1972, this aerial photo gives a comprehensive view of Accrington town centre.
The railway, including the town’s impressive arched viaduct is clearly visible at the top of the picture.
The town hall stands in the centre of the photo with Broadway and the car behind the shops.
The curved building with the white frontage is the Classic Cinema with the geometric roof of the outdoor market across the road.
Towards the bottom of the photo you can see St James Church set in its own grounds with Cannon Street Baptist Church off to the left.
Much has happened in Accrington in the intervening 50 years but many of the landmarks are still recognisable today.
