A 19-year-old has been reported for summons after police caught him driving an Audi A3 which was insured in a 42-year-old's name.

The teenager told police he couldn't afford the £6,000 insurance policy he'd been quoted as he'd 'only just passed his test'.

Officers patrolling in Blackburn this morning (Friday, January 19) came across the vehicle, pictured, and after carrying out some basic checks, found the car was insured in a 42-year-old's name.

However, when they spoke with the driver, it transpired he was a lot younger than 42 - he was 19 - and was not insured to drive the Audi.

The police said he then provided them with the excuse that, "the insurance company quoted him £6,000 which he could not afford and he has only passed his test".

Suffice to say the vehicle was seized by the officers, and the teenager reported for summons.

A spokesperson for the police said: "Team 5 RPU have been out on patrol in Blackburn this morning and came across this Audi A3.

"Checks conducted showed only a 42-year-old was on the insurance policy but the driver appeared very young.

"Driver spoken to and stated he is 19-years-old and not insured to drive the Audi as the insurance company quoted him £6,000 which he could not afford and he has only passed his test recently.

"Driver has been reported for summons and the vehicle has been seized."
