A woman who was crashed her car was more than three times over the drink drive limit.

Blackburn Magistrates' Court heard Vivien Groll had been drinking Jack Daniels and Coke at a friend's house, before driving off following a row on September 8.

While driving home, she crashed her Fiat 500 in Goldhey Street, and when breathalysed by police blew more than three times the legal limit, before providing a slightly lower reading back at the police station.

Groll, 29, told police she had crashed because she had been dazzled by oncoming lights, which was not accepted by District Judge Alexandra Preston.

“The accident was caused because you were drunk and not because you were dazzled,” said District Judge Preston.

“You were obviously not fit to get behind the wheel of that car and when you did you put the lives of other road users at risk.”

Groll, of Cornelian Street, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol.

She was made subject to a community order for 12 months with 15 days rehabilitation activity requirement and a 90 days alcohol abstinence monitoring requirement.

She was also ordered to pay £85 costs and a £114 victim surcharge, and disqualified from driving for two years.

Glenn Anderton, prosecuting, said when police arrived at the scene of the crash, a member of the public pointed out Groll as the driver of a car which had crashed into a parked car.

He said: “The officer says she was unsteady on her feet and could hardly keep her balance."

Groll gave a roadside reading of 107 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml of breath, more than three times the legal limit of 35mcg.

She was taken to hospital before being taken to the police station where she gave an evidential sample of 95mcg, more than two and a half times the legal limit.

Groll told police she had been drinking at a friend’s house and when they had an argument she left to calm down.

She said she felt fit to drive and had only crashed because she was dazzled by oncoming headlights.
