A car flipped and landed upside down on its roof in a crash, believed to be caused by dangerous and icy road conditions.

The crash occurred in Hardhorn Road, Poulton-le-Fylde earlier this morning (Tuesday, January 16).

It is thought two vehicles, pictured, were involved in the incident, with emergency services, including firefighters, scrambling to the scene to rescue those trapped in the upturned car.

Luckily, police said those involved in the crash received only "minor injuries".

The road was closed while officers from the police and fire service dealt with the incident and made the scene safe.

The crash comes following a night and early morning of heavy snowfall across the county, with multiple similar incidents reported on Lancashire's roads already today.

A spokesperson for the police said: "We are currently at the scene of a minor injury collision on Hardhorn Road, Poulton-le-Fylde.

"The road will be re-opened in approximately an hours time."

A yellow weather warning for snow and ice is in place across Lancashire.

Warnings continue across large swathes of the northern half of the country until Thursday.

A “cold plunge of Arctic air” has moved south across the whole country over the past few days, making it 5C to 6C lower than usual for this time of year, the Met Office said.
