An investigation has been launched after a man was crushed to death between two vehicles at an industrial estate.

Police, the fire service and the ambulance service were called to the incident, which happened at around 3pm on Saturday (January 6) at Moorfield Industrial Estate, off Burnley Road, Altham.

Police said efforts were being made to contact the man’s next of kin and an investigation alongside the Health and Safety Executive is now underway into the incident.

A police spokesperson said: “We were called by the ambulance service to reports of an industrial accident in Moorfield Drive, Altham, on Saturday at around 3.10pm.

 “A man had become trapped between two vehicles, suffering fatal injuries. He was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

“Efforts are underway to contact the man’s next of kin, and our thoughts are with them and his loved ones at this very sad time.  

“A joint investigation between the Health and Safety Executive and the police is underway.”

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said three fire engines from Hyndburn, Padiham and Chorley, along with a Urban Search and Rescue Team, assisted and supported North West Ambulance Service and police in the stabilisation and recovery of a vehicle. 

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) was approached for comment but would clarify any further details at this stage.

A HSE spokesperson said: "We are aware of the incident and making enquiries."
