A taxi diver has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving on New Year's Eve.

Officers in Burnley were carrying out drink and drug drive checks in Colne Road last night (December 31).

While the police said that 99 per cent of the drivers they stopped blew zero at the roadside, one driver did not.

That person was a taxi driver, who officers say provided a positive drink drive sample of 56, with the legal limit being 35.

He was arrested on suspicion of drink driving.

A spokesperson for the police said: "Team 5 road police unit officers have been conducting drink/drug drive checks on Colne Road Burnley.

"Ninety nine per cent blew zero but surprisingly a taxi driver provided a positive sample of 56 against the legal limit of 35 and was duly arrested."
