A Great Harwood company will be supporting extreme athlete Andre Belibi as he attempts to set a new world record, by hosting their own event in East Lancs.

Swiss athlete Andre will attempt to break the world record for a human to be packed in ice next year.

A certified coach, extreme athlete and motivational speaker, Andre decided to raise awareness and support for his 12-year-old daughter Kira and the millions of other people around the world with autism.

With the help of friends, colleagues and supporters around the world, the 37-year-old is coming to the end of year-long preparations to break the record for the longest duration  - full body contact with ice (male) – which will take place in Calgary, Canada.

He said: "I tell my daughter that if you put your mind to it, you can do anything.

"I want to show her these are not just empty words; everyone can overcome their challenges if you are willing to work hard and stay focused on achieving your goals.”

Lancashire Telegraph:

His preparations have included, regular plunges in near freezing water, running and hiking in high-altitude mountains with minimal clothing on, breathing and meditation exercises, and high intensity gym workouts to build the necessary physical and mental attributes to survive more than three hours in an ice bath.

Great Harwood based Urban Tone specialises in cold water immersion wear and equipment, and has partnered up with cold water swimming group Stay Wild... Wild Swim run by Elaine Nuttall, from Clitheroe, to host a cold water swimming event.

All donations raised throughout the event will be going to support Andre Belibi on his mission and his chosen charity for Autism.

The cold-water swimming event will take place on Sunday, January 28, at Churn Clough Reservoir, near Sabden.

More details including times cold water swimming event can be found on Stay Wild... Wild Swim's page on Facebook.

Meanwhile, Andre will be immersing in an ice bath in public locations in Manchester, Leeds and Glasgow for up to an hour, to raise more awareness for the upcoming world record attempt.
